Rustic, Safe Cabin - Dog Friendly - Peace & Quiet, Hot Tub & Lovely Fire Pit - 15 mins from Bryson
Positive: The area & the cabin were perfect for a 3 day weekend Thurs to Sun from Atlanta, traveling with our dog Violet. Our goal was to disconnect & enjoy the outdoors. The cabin is high up on a mountain top & very quiet. There is a cabin just below - far enough away to maintain privacy. The hot tub was fun & surprisingly we used it 2 of the 3 days as well as the fire pit. It's ~15 mins from Bryson City which is a lovely town. Our 1st stop on our way to the cabin was BC Outdoor Store/Tap room. Great vibe to stop & have a drink, meet locals & travelers & people watch. On Sat there was a food truck across the street at BC with AMAZING food - great to-go & head back up the mountain to peace/quiet. There are many restaurants in town but on this trip we had to be 100% dog friendly as we wouldn't leave our pup in the cabin so visited the coffee shop / patio by the train stop & Tuck & Table + the ice cream shop. Truly THE best food was the food truck across from BC. Great fly fishing near town, Cherokee NC, Mingo Falls, the Rd to No Where fun stops.
The cabin does not have conveniences like a dishwasher, fully stocked kitchen (wine glasses) but you will have the basics. Wifi/cable/heat good. I gave a 10 for cleanliness & facilities but I want to be clear that the cabin isn't shiny new. It is rustic, the beds are comfortable & we felt safe/welcomed with our pup.
When I was searching for places I read many frightening reviews of treacherous drives up the mountain. This listing had much detail about what to expect & it was accurate. Accepts dogs / $100 fee & outlined expectations to drive up. Our best recommendation - make sure you have at least an AWD. We have a Volvo XC60 which was fine.
Negative: The kitchen is small. I had planned on cooking or at least being able to use the grill but not much room. Not a big deal as we brought some of our conveniences from home - electric water pot and our french press, pillows. The kitchen has a micro, coffee pot, full fridge. The Ingles has the best options for groceries and hot food. Surprisingly the Dollar Store (General) was really well stocked with groceries and stuff we needed for a day of fishing. FYI - The IGA is super slimmed down - don't recommend.
There is a patio in front but no table for eating in the evening al fresco. We pulled out one of the side tables which worked but would be nice to have a simple table / chairs for dining. There are rocking chairs but were a bit rustic. We used the lovely Adirondack chairs by the fire pit every morning to enjoy coffee / quiet. Wood logs worked well to build the fire- recommend to buy fire starter sticks.
No mountain view but plenty of beautiful outdoor sounds, especially lots of quiet. :-)
I don't recommend kids as there is a bit of a drop without a boundary in the front of the cabin. Definitely an adults/young adults only spot. Our pup got close to edges but she went off leash while we were around (not at night). Maybe bring a long rope if you worry about young dogs but certainly not a show stopper. She loved sniffing all around!
